Privacy

When you email me

Your name, email address and whatever you include in the message: details of your books, links, and any files you attach, such as covers, manuscripts or screenshots. Please don't send passwords or login details by email; if a job needs access to an account, we'll agree a safer way to share it.

When we work together

Project files, correspondence about the work, and the details needed for invoicing and payment records, such as your name, billing address and what was paid and when.

When you visit the website

Like every website, the servers that deliver these pages receive technical information from your browser, including your IP address, browser type and the page requested. I don't use this to identify you. There are no accounts, no contact forms, no newsletter sign-up and no advertising on this site.

Why I use it

• To reply to your enquiry and quote for work. This is in both our legitimate interests, and a step you've asked for before any agreement.
• To do the work and get paid for it. This is necessary to carry out our agreement.
• To keep business and tax records. UK tax law requires this.
• To keep the website secure and understand how it's used, in aggregate. This is in my legitimate interests and doesn't track individuals.

I don't sell your information or share it for anyone else's marketing, and I won't add you to a mailing list without asking.

Who else handles it

I use a small number of trusted service providers to run the business: an email provider, cloud storage for project files, and accounting and payment tools. The website is hosted by Cloudflare, and some images are delivered by Cloudinary. They handle information on my behalf to provide their services. Some are based outside the UK, so I use established providers that offer the safeguards UK data protection law expects.

How long I keep it

Authors often come back months or years later for an updated cover, a new edition or a change to their website, so I keep emails and project files for as long as they're useful for that. If you'd like yours deleted, just ask and I'll remove them. Invoices and payment records are kept for as long as UK tax rules require, even after other files are deleted.

WriterPA doesn't set cookies, so there is no cookie banner to click through.

Visitor statistics

I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they read and which sites referred them. It doesn't use cookies or local storage, doesn't fingerprint your browser, and doesn't follow you across other websites. I only see totals, never individual visitors.

Security

If Cloudflare needs to check that traffic isn't automated, it may set a short-lived, strictly necessary security cookie. It is used only to protect the site.

Images and links

Some images load from Cloudinary, which receives the same technical request information as any web server. Links to other websites, such as retailers, publishing platforms or my own author sites, are covered by those sites' privacy policies once you follow them.

You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how I use it, or receive a copy to take elsewhere. Some records, such as invoices, have to be kept for legal reasons even if you ask me to delete them.
